Netflix’s ‘Dating Around’ Review: Love’s A Surreal Game

Before Dating Around, Justin was in a relationship for six years. He broke up with his girlfriend two and a half years before the show filmed. As he explained to his dates, he was in the same relationship since he was 21, so now, his early 30s are the first time he’s really dating. In each episode, the co-creators Paul Franklin and Chris Culvenor simply point cameras at one New Yorker on a series of blind dates. A boilerplate question (Where do you live? Are we eating these summer rolls with chopsticks or what?) might trigger a montage of answers from the different daters.

Is Dating Around season 3 happening?

Fans had mixed feelings about this storyline, especially since Rachel and Joey ended their relationship after a few episodes. That ’70s Show was one TV comedy that went downhill after a character departure. Aside from the show attempting to go on once Eric left, not all fans were happy with his departure storyline. Eric ended up leaving for Africa to teach, and it just didn’t make sense for some viewers. Alicia and Will go way back as they met when they were both attending law school at Georgetown. It’s how Alicia scores her position at Lockhart/Gardner since Will is a partner.

For those who haven’t started watching yet, the premise is pretty straight forward; finding love in the big city with little time to waste. They have drinks, dinner, and sometimes, night caps with those they spark with. During the dates, they share appetizers and discuss what they’re looking for in a partner. It’s like, we’re in the ChristianCupid text chat car, but we’re not holding onto the steering wheel.” Season 1 contestant Gurki Basra seconded Franklin’s comments, calling the blind dates “100% REAL” on Instagram. Lex was the first gay person to have made an appearance on the series. The production designer’s creative nature and fun personality shone through in his episode.

Since the very beginning of Abbott Elementary Janine and Gregory have been dancing around feelings for one another. Between shy looks, and clear tension, their romance seemed inevitable. But it wasn’t until episode 16 of the show’s second season that the sparks that had been flying turned into full-blown fireworks. The “marry” for me is also a clear pick, and not coincidentally, this is the biggest saving grace of the admittedly underwhelming episode. I’d pick Victoria for this one, and the fact that Luke also picks Victoria, the strangest person in the bunch, seems like an indication that Luke realizes he needs someone to make him quirkier. If you’re a fan of Netflix’sDating Around, you’re bound to have fallen in love with Luke and Victoria, who seemed to have one of the most successful dates on the series.

The queer folks lock into a camaraderie—or at least a reference palette—that cuts some of the tension marking the straight dates. “By all means, exit,” she says—her first-date propriety charged with new rancor—as he leaves. I feel like he was playing it safe and it made him seem vanilla.

« We went on some dates … but it kind of followed along with this typical New York dating where it just kind of fizzled out, » he revealed. Last year, Netflix released a new kind of dating show, in the time before shows like Love is Blind and Too Hot To Handle really took off in the grim era of 2020. Dating Around, in six half-hour segments, followed one person each episode as they went on five dates, where they can only choose one of the “contestants” to go on a second date. The two fell in love, but they couldn’t work out things together for a long time.

U/PungentPomegranates says that Luke’s handling of April’s existence was a pretty bad storyline, discussing how he should’ve told Lorelai once he found out. Another user added that there wasn’t even a need to add an unknown-teenage daughter storyline in the first place. For u/OneGoodRib, it didn’t make sense for Rachel to give up her lifelong dream of being on Broadway. After all, it was a storyline that was out of character for Rachel, especially since she has been someone who was always ambitious and driven.

When Alicia comforts Will in his office, he kisses her in a moment of passion, and though she kisses him back she quickly realizes what she’s done and runs out. Though she does come back, she just misses him, and the slow burn continues to ride out for longer. It eventually came to a head in Season 7, when the pair found themselves alone in an extravagant house Phil was gearing up to sell. The tension between them was thick throughout the entire episode, but it wasn’t until close to the end that they finally acted on it. After saying their goodbyes and stating that the moments they had shared all day were simply a result of the house’s atmosphere, Haley leaves. But it isn’t long before she runs back in and jumps into Andy’s arms where the two share a passionate and perfect kiss that will forever remain a fan-favorite moment of Modern Family.

As the show was airing from 2007 to 2012, the identity of Gossip Girl remained a mystery until the very last episode. It was revealed that Dan Humphrey , one of the show’s romantic leads, was the anonymous blogger all along. Ever watch your favorite show and think to yourself, « Wait, what just happened? » These Redditors felt that too. And I don’t think Christopher has the self awareness to see what a terrible father he was & is. ALL he saw was that Lorelai was still in love with the « diner guy ».

I didn’t care for Victoria, she seemed too brash and flippant. For a woman who wasn’t afraid to end a date when feeling uncomfortable, out of the four other suitors, she chose to go with Matt, aka the man after her heart via a can of Narragansett. It doesn’t seem like the relationship lasted for too long, as it looks like both men moved onto serious relationships elsewhere.

U/Dorkside said it was complete nonsense, especially since viewers have seen Dan reacting to Gossip Girl posts, even when he’s alone. To them, it seemed straight-up impossible for Dan to be Gossip Girl. For instance, Reddit user u/dinascully said that it weirds them out when a non-magical universe show has something magical happen, naming Grey’s Anatomy as an example.
